New Delhi. Just like Diwali, there is confusion among people regarding the date of Devuthani Ekadashi, the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the month of Kartik. The Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the month of Kartik is called Devuthani Ekadashi. This date is considered extremely sacred and auspicious in Hinduism. It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month yogic sleep. With Lord Vishnu’s awakening, the Chaturmas (monthly period) ends. Auspicious events such as marriages, house warming ceremonies, and tonsure ceremonies begin.

On Devuthani, Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and observe a fast. This year, the Ekadashi date fell on two days, creating confusion regarding the exact date of the fast.

According to the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi date of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Kartik month begins on November 1st at 9:12 am and continues until 7:32 pm on November 2nd. In such a situation, householders, according to the calendar, and practitioners of the Vaishnav tradition, break their fast on Harivasar. Those who observe the fast on November 1st will break it on November 2nd. It is auspicious to break the fast between 1:11 pm and 3:23 pm on this day.
