New Delhi:Congress General Secretary Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today blamed the NDA government in Bihar for the humiliation suffered by people who migrate to different places in search of work and livelihood.
Addressing a massive election rally at Champaran, Ms Vadra said that due to unemployment, about half of Bihar’s population migrates to other parts of the country to earn a living. Those who migrate suffer humiliation in the cities, but the NDA government is not even paying attention to them, she said, adding that Modi government neither respects the people of Bihar nor their Chief Minister.
The Congress General Secretary recalled that decades ago, when there were no mobile phones, televisions or paved roads, the farmers of Champaran had inspired Mahatma Gandhi with their agitation. Mahatma Gandhi had initiated the Satyagraha from here, and the fight for independence had begun here, she said.
Lashing out at the 20-year-long NDA government in the state, she said that the education system has collapsed. She pointed out that in the last three years, 27 bridges have collapsed and agriculture is no longer generating income.
The Congress General Secretary said that old industries and businesses have been shut down, as a result of which half the population migrates to different states to earn a living. Paper leaks are ruining the youth and students, she said.
Referring to indiscriminate privatisation, she accused the Modi government of selling public sector industries to its industrialist friends. She said corruption is rampant in the country. She highlighted the daily struggles of women, the impact of inflation, and the challenges of raising children.
Referring to recent revelations of vote theft by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi said that the BJP had stolen the entire government in Haryana, where 2.5 million fake votes were found. She said that the arrogance of BJP leaders has grown so much that they are not even respecting the people’s right to vote. She pointed out that 6.5 million votes were deleted in Bihar. She added that such vote theft undermines the rights of the people and weakens the Constitution.
She appealed to people to elect the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar, which will work for women, youth, farmers, and the poor.
Ms Vadra also listed the Grand Alliance’s key promises for Bihar.
She said that social security pensions for the elderly and widows will be provided at Rs 1,500 per month, with an increase of Rs 200 every year. Landless families will be given 3 to 5 decimals of land, with ownership granted to women. Women will receive Rs 2,500 per month under the Mai-Behan Maan Samman Yojana. Treatment costing up to Rs 25 lakh will be free. Farmers will be guaranteed MSP. Vacant government positions will be filled. Strict action will be taken against paper leaks. A job calendar will be created, pre-determining the dates for examinations, results, and appointments. EBC reservations will be increased to 30 percent and SC reservations to 20 percent in Panchayati Raj and municipal bodies.
