Indira Gandhi Institute’s women’s team wins title

New Delhi. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science team defeated the defending champions, Delhi University Alumnae, 8-7 after a close contest that went to sudden death. The title match, which ended with both teams tied at 2-2, went into a tiebreaker. Both teams displayed excellent performance, converting 5-5 goals each to bring the score to a 7-7 draw, forcing the match into a sudden death. Playing in the sudden death match, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science team won the tournament title by an 8-7 margin. Pinky, Sukanya, and Bindu scored two goals each for the winning team. Aanchal and Somvati scored one goal each. Manita scored three goals for the losing team. Vidhi scored two goals for her team. Sonika and Kanchan contributed one goal each. Yashasvi, a player from the winning team, was honored with the Player of the Match award.
The chief guests for the final match of this tournament were Jitendra Mahajan, MLA, Rohtas Nagar; Ritesh Suji, Councilor, Welcome Ward; and Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College (Morning), who presented the awards to the players. Mr. Mahajan encouraged the players and advised them to strive hard in hockey and reach new heights. He said, “Shyam Lal College has a 40-year-old hockey tradition. I was also a student here. When hockey matches were held at the university, three U-Special buses would arrive filled with supporters.” I have seen VS Jaggi playing as a student and now he is encouraging the children.” Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar thanked all the guests and congratulated the players and praised VS Jaggi for organizing the event and expressed hope that the players will continue to work hard in the same manner.
