Jaipur,. Former Chief Minister  Ashok Gehlot, speaking to the media today at his Jaipur residence, 49 Civil Lines, termed the objections raised by two Election Commissioners against the Commission’s decisions an extremely serious situation for the country’s democracy. He said that the suspicion the entire country already had about the role of Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar has now been exposed by the Commission’s own members. What happened in Bengal and Bihar, and the dictatorial manner in which the Commission was run in Delhi, had been consistently raised by Shri Rahul Gandhi. Today, the same has been proven true. He said that whether it was COVID-19, SIR, vote chori or the Election Commission, Shri Rahul Gandhi has spoken bluntly on every issue, both inside and outside Parliament, and people have come to believe that he speaks the truth.

Shri Gehlot said that it is a matter of great shame for Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and the entire NDA government that they selected such a person. Bringing a new law to remove the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from the selection committee itself shows what their intention was from the very beginning. He said, “Free and fair elections have come to an end, people have lost faith. People are demanding elections through ballot paper, but they do not even like to hear it.” He said that the ED, Income Tax and CBI were already under pressure, and now the Election Commission too has been reduced to being one of their departments.

Demanding the immediate dismissal of the Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Gehlot said, “Things should reach a point where he is put behind bars.” He said the question is who will take action, when those who are supposed to take action are themselves complicit in this. He warned that preparations are underway to redraw Parliament and Assembly seats as per their convenience through delimitation, and to establish permanent one-party rule like China, Russia and North Korea. Citing the example of Bengal, he said that there, by breaking away opposition MLAs and MPs, both the ruling side and the opposition have been captured.

On the Rajasthan urban local body elections, Shri Gehlot said that here too, unilateral delimitation was carried out on the lines of Assam. Whatever suited the BJP, accordingly, at some places four wards were merged into one and at others one ward was split into two. It is on this basis that they have won these elections, whereas in many places including Jaipur and Jodhpur, Congress is ahead in the number of votes, and in total votes it is behind by only 0.94 percent.

Responding to a question about an independent MLA going missing and councillors being taken to Haryana, he said that such acts have happened in an election in Rajasthan for the first time in history. Horse trading, distributing money, picking up councillors, threatening their families, issuing notices for demolition of houses and reopening ten to twenty year old cases, there was no tactic that was not used. Even the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police were used. He said that the officers who did all this under government pressure have tarnished the IAS and IPS cadre. Targeting Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, he said, “I considered him a decent man, but I could never have imagined that he would ruin Rajasthan by conducting elections in this manner. Taking pride in such a victory is shameful.”

Shri Gehlot said that the situation is such that Rajasthan should have been shut down by now. All sections of society, including the trading community, and all opposition parties associated with the INDIA alliance should jointly give a call for Rajasthan Bandh. Regarding Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota, he said, wait for the 25th.

In conclusion, appealing to the younger generation, he said that the future of the country belongs to them and they must understand what game is being played with democracy. The time has come for the youth to rise and send the message that they understand everything.
