In a shocking incident, an Indian Army jawan was brutally assaulted by toll plaza workers in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut while on his way to rejoin duty in Srinagar. The jawan, identified as Kapil Kavad, was pinned to a pole and beaten at Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut–Karnal highway.
According to police, the incident took place while Kapil was travelling to Delhi airport with his cousin. Chilling videos shared on social media show several toll employees attacking him and restraining him against a pole.
So far, six people have been arrested, and CCTV footage from the toll plaza is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The situation quickly escalated as angry villagers, upon hearing of the incident, stormed the toll plaza. The crowd caused significant damage, forcing its closure and halting toll collection. Clashes broke out between the villagers, toll staff, and police officers at the site.
Police said the jawan was on leave and heading back to join his unit in Kashmir. Sources have now confirmed that Kapil is posted with a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) unit in the Valley and was returning to resume duty when the altercation occurred.

While the jawan is currently undergoing treatment at a military hospital (MH), an FIR has already been lodged by him in connection with the assault.
The Indian Army is in touch with both the injured jawan and the local police, and is closely monitoring the investigation.
As per preliminary accounts, the argument reportedly began when Kapil tried to explain to toll staff that he was in a hurry due to a long queue of vehicles. However, the discussion soon turned violent, and the soldier was allegedly attacked with the intent to cause serious harm.
This incident took place weeks after a 65-year-old retired Army jawan was beaten to death by his neighbour in UP’s Deoria. The deceased was identified as Ramdayal Kushwaha, a resident of Fatehpur village in Rudrapur police station area, police said.
According to police, Kushwaha had objected to his neighbour Vijay Bind driving his car through the victim’s land. Following this, an argument broke out between the two. Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Arvind Kumar Verma said that Vijay and some of his companions beat up Ramdayal and fled.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and took Ramdayal to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
