Congress Questions Center and State Governments
The Sunday Mail
New Delhi: The Congress party attacked the central and state governments over the deaths caused by drinking contaminated water in Indore and questioned the Jal Jeevan Mission. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, posted on their respective X (formerly Twitter) accounts, condemning the government’s policies. Rahul Gandhi said that in Indore, poison, not water, was distributed, and the administration remained in a deep slumber. There is mourning in every household, the poor are helpless – and on top of that, there are the arrogant statements of BJP leaders. Those whose homes have been plunged into grief needed solace; the government offered arrogance instead. Rahul raised questions: People repeatedly complained about the dirty, foul-smelling water – yet why were their complaints not heard? How did sewage get mixed with drinking water? Why was the supply not stopped in time? When will action be taken against the responsible officers and leaders? These are not ‘trivial’ questions – these are demands for accountability. Clean water is not a favor, it is a right to life. And the BJP’s double-engine government, its negligent administration, and insensitive leadership are entirely responsible for the violation of this right.
Madhya Pradesh has now become the epicenter of misgovernance – deaths from cough syrup, rats killing children in government hospitals, and now deaths from drinking sewage-contaminated water. And whenever the poor die, Modi remains silent as always. Kharge said that Prime Minister Modi, who boasts about the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is, as always, silent on the deaths caused by drinking contaminated water in Indore. This is the same Indore city that has won the title of “Cleanest City” for the eighth consecutive time in the central government’s Swachh Survekshan. It is shameful that people here are deprived of clean water due to the incompetence of the BJP. For 11 years, the country has only heard grand speeches, lies, deceit, hollow claims, and boasts about the “double-engine” government. When a minister is questioned, they resort to abusive language. In their arrogance of power, they turn on the journalists. The entire machinery is engaged in covering up the misgovernance of the BJP governments. Every scheme, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, is riddled with corruption and irregularities. It is important to remember that 10% of the Jal Jeevan Mission funds are allocated for purifying contaminated water. The Modi government and the BJP have provided neither clean water nor clean air to the country. The common people are suffering.
