Shyam Lal College (Morning) and Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science Teams Win Matches

New Delhi. Shyam Lal College (Morning) and Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science teams started the 12th Padma Shri Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament with resounding victories. In the men’s category, the host Shyam Lal College (Morning) secured a one-sided victory by defeating Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College by a margin of 8-0. Harshu scored 3 goals and Ashu scored 2 goals to lead their team to victory. Nand Kishore, Praveen, and Pratyush contributed one goal each. Harshu was awarded the Player of the Match award.
The match played between Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science and Hansraj College was won by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science team with a score of 7-1. Pulkit made a significant contribution of 4 goals for the winning team. Chander, Shubham, and Gurmukh scored one goal each in that victory. Pulkit was awarded the Player of the Match award.
Earlier, the chief guest, Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Delhi University, inaugurated the tournament.
The Principal of the host Shyam Lal College, Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, honored all the guests, including Mr. Pani, Prof. Sarita Tyagi, HOD, DPESS, DU, Dr. Jyoti Mann, Assistant Director, DUSC, and Sanjeev Gautam, ACP, Shahdara, with mementos.

The Principal of Shyam Lal College, Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, praised the efforts of the sports committee convenor, V.S. Jaggi, in promoting hockey and other sports, and announced the installation of floodlights on the sports ground so that hockey and other sports events can be organized at night as well. Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Delhi University, said, “I am from Odisha, and former Indian captain and now Hockey India president Dr. Dilip Tirkey was my junior at the university. I used to watch him play hockey often. It’s great that Shyam Lal College organizes a hockey tournament every year. Hockey should be promoted extensively throughout the country, including at Delhi University. We will provide full support to the colleges from Delhi University for sports.” (Sports Editor)
