NEW DELHI । — The independent Election Committee for the Alumni Association of Jawaharlal Nehru University (AAJ)—comprising Prof. Meeta Narain, Dr. Shikhar Ranjan, and Dr. Sunil Agrawal—has officially declared the results for the Executive Committee elections for the 2026–2028 biennium. Following the conclusion of a global online voting process yesterday, the ViSHVa panel secured a decisive victory, sweeping all four top leadership portfolios alongside seven executive members elected unopposed.
The newly elected executive officers bringing a mix of academic excellence and professional leadership to AAJ include:
President: D.P. Vajpayee, renowned academician, social entrepreneur, and Director of the DIAS India Group.
Vice President: Himanshu Shekhar, distinguished professional and media personality.
General Secretary: Dr. Sandesha Rayapa, well-known academician from JNU.
Treasurer: Dr. N. Vijay Kumar, respected academician from Delhi University (DU).
A Mandate for Immediate Institutional Reform
Reacting to the sweeping victory, President-elect D.P. Vajpayee stated:

Our first priority is to build a vibrant, physically accessible home for our alumni on campus through a permanent secretariat. We will bridge our glorious past with our promising future by channeling the immense resource pool of our 80,000-strong global network directly into the immediate needs of JNU’s students—starting with urgent hostel renovations and library expansions. The era of litigation is behind us; today, we begin a new chapter of constructive institutional growth.”

The incoming leadership takes the helm of AAJ at a historic juncture. The association represents a powerhouse network of over 80,000 alumni spread across the globe. Recognized widely as public intellectuals, AAJ’s membership includes world-renowned figures such as Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, global Prime Ministers, and two prominent Union Cabinet Ministers, alongside thousands of leaders spanning global think tanks, academia, journalism, and the civil bureaucracy.
Taking charge after the complete restoration of AAJ’s banking channels and the resolution of all historical court litigations last month, the ViSHVa panel’s core priorities for the upcoming tenure focus heavily on modernization and campus welfare:
Physical Secretariat: Establishing a fully equipped, permanent physical office on the JNU campus.
Verified Membership: Issuing standardized, verifiable alumni membership identification cards.
Global Engagement: Activating regional and international alumni chapters bound by a fixed quarterly events calendar.
Campus Infrastructure: Directing immediate alumni financial pipelines toward critical student needs, including hostel renovations, library expansions, and direct welfare funds.
