Democracy has ended in the country – Ashok Gehlot
The Sunday Mail
Jaipur. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said in his post that it seems as if democracy has ended in the country and it has now become a police state. From Rajasthan to West Bengal, opposition parties are being crushed by the police and government agencies.
Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in Nandigram, West Bengal, was arrested today in a nearly twenty-year-old case. First, the Trinamool Congress candidate’s candidacy was withdrawn and the Congress candidate was arrested. If a crime had indeed been committed, why did the police wake up only today, after twenty years? This is not an arrest, as Mr. @RahulGandhi says, this is election theft. Here in Rajasthan, the BJP government’s misuse of the police force during the civic elections has been recorded in history. This is the first time the country has witnessed a party so shamelessly misusing power just to elect a chairman or mayor. This is not democracy, but a rule of fear and oppression. The people of the country are witnessing everything. We are confident that when the time comes, they will give a befitting reply.
