Padma Shri Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament

New Delhi. Host Shyam Lal College and Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science teams will face each other in the men’s final of the 12th Padma Shri Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament. In the women’s final, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science and Delhi University Alumnae will clash for the title. In the first men’s semi-final, defending champions Shyam Lal College defeated SLC ‘B’ team 4-1. Manish of the winning team was given the Player of the Match award. Pankaj scored two goals for Shyam Lal College, while Naveen Bidhuri and Harsh Sharma scored one each. The only goal for the SLC ‘B’ team was scored by Deepak. In the second semi-final, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science defeated Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College 8-7 in a match that went to sudden death. The match was tied 2-2 in regulation time. Dhruv of the winning team was awarded the Player of the Match award. Dhruv scored 6 goals and Pulkit scored two for Indira Gandhi Institute. For Khalsa College, Tanuj and Vipin scored two goals each, while Danish, Priyansh and Manish scored one goal each.
In the first women’s semi-final, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science team defeated Vivekananda College by a margin of 5-0. Kalyani scored three goals. Somwati and Sheetal scored one goal each. Kalyani of the winning team was given the Player of the Match award. In the second semi-final, defending champions Delhi University Alumnae defeated Janaki Devi College 5-0. Manita of the winning team received the Player of the Match award. Neelam scored two goals, while Vidhi, Sonika Yadav and Sonu Sharma contributed one goal each. The chief guest for the final match of this tournament will be former Indian international hockey player and Olympian Ashok Dhyan Chand. Jitendra Mahajan, MLA, Rohtas Nagar, and Ritesh Suji, Councillor, Welcome Ward, will also be present as guests of honor, along with Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College (Morning), to encourage the players.
