Weather wreaks havoc in Uttarakhand; rain and landslides disrupt Char Dham Yatra

Due to continuous rainfall in the state, the government has postponed the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimages until September 5. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across the state for the next few days. This morning, near Gaurikund on the Kedarnath highway, a stone fell on a Bolero vehicle, killing two people on the spot, including a woman. Due to continuous landslides in the mountains and heavy rainfall in the plains, schools in 10 districts across the state, including Dehradun, have been closed as a precautionary measure.

On Monday, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey informed that heavy rainfall has caused landslides and debris blocking several roads across the state. Efforts are being made to clear these roads on priority. However, considering the safety and convenience of travelers, a decision has been made to suspend the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimages for now.

Appeal to Travelers:

He appealed to travelers not to travel on pilgrimage routes considering the adverse weather conditions. The journeys will resume once the weather becomes normal and the routes are declared completely safe. He also said that the state government and local administration are taking all necessary steps to monitor roads, clear debris, and ensure the safety of travelers.

Stone Fell on Vehicle on Kedarnath Highway, Two Dead:

This morning in Rudraprayag, a Max Bolero vehicle met with an accident when a large stone fell from above at the corner of the Munkatia landslide zone. This incident happened between Gaurikund and Sonprayag on the Kedarnath highway. There were 11 passengers in the vehicle, out of which 2 died and 3 were injured. The injured were immediately taken to Sonprayag hospital by rescue teams and local people
