New Delhi. 47 percent of school-going children suffer from neck, back, or joint pain. A study by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIMS) has revealed this. According to the study, prolonged sitting in incorrect positions and using laptops and mobile phones are contributing to these problems.

Due to the lack of physiotherapy specialists in schools, physical stress from sports is also contributing to problems like leg strains, neck, back, or joint pain in school children. The study also found that children suffering from pain received relief from physiotherapy. This can also improve their performance in sports. Therefore, the researchers highlight the need for physiotherapy specialists in schools.

The study is being conducted under the leadership of Dr. Samarth Mittal, Additional Professor at the AIIMS Trauma Center. As per the study protocol, these children received physiotherapy and exercise for 12 weeks. After twelve weeks, the children’s problems were found to have resolved. Doctors and physiotherapy specialists screened 380 students in grades 9th through 12th.
