Taiwan. Floods caused by Super Typhoon Ragasa have wreaked havoc in Taiwan’s popular tourist destination, Hualien. 16 of people have been reported dead, and hundreds are missing. The cause of the devastation is believed to be a mountain lake that burst due to heavy rain. The lake burst, causing massive flooding in Guangfu town, inundating towns. Rescue teams from various parts of Taiwan have been sent to Hualien due to the severity of the flooding. The army has deployed 340 soldiers to assist. Soldiers are going door to door in armored vehicles through muddy roads, providing food, water, and essential supplies to residents.
Local residents say the floodwaters hit like a tsunami, with some barely escaping with their lives. People say that the flood was so severe that it even washed away the bridge built on the river in Nadi town. A local councilor said that the government advised people to go to the upper floors during floods, but the flood was so severe that even this measure did not work against the flood.
Local people say that about a thousand people live in Dama village, the entire village is affected by the flood. Mud and stones are visible everywhere in the village. Many people are still trapped in the flood water. Relief material is also not reaching the people. According to government data, there was about 9.1 crore tons of water in the lake, about 6 crore tons of which was washed away at once, which created a severe flood situation.
