New Delhi: Dr. Satish Poonia, Haryana BJP in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, accused the Congress party of avoiding constructive debate and engaging in negative politics during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Speaking to the media within the Parliament complex, he stated that the entire nation has witnessed Congress’s negative politics; flaws were evident in both the party’s intentions and policies, and it consistently avoided discussing issues that warranted serious deliberation.

Poonia remarked that there had been an expectation of an opportunity to hear both the treasury and opposition benches and to understand various issues, but the entire session was disrupted by Congress’s anti-people conduct. He noted that Congress did not even participate in the debate regarding ‘Vande Mataram’—a song for which people made sacrifices during the country’s freedom struggle. This was a subject where all parties should have risen above partisan politics to join the government in discussion.

He also referred to the issue of renaming Kerala to ‘Keralam’. Poonia stated that this was an emotional issue concerning the people of Kerala and deserved a constructive discussion, yet Congress chose to stay away from the House proceedings.

Satish Poonia observed that while Congress’s Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, constantly speaks about raising issues concerning students and the youth, the party failed to participate in the debate even when an opportunity arose to discuss a crucial matter like the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Act. Issues such as paper leaks directly affect students’ interests and should have been discussed above political considerations; instead, Congress engaged in performative politics.

He alleged that Congress feared that a discussion in the House would expose its past issues and errors. The party sought to avoid answering for issues such as corruption, unemployment, anarchy, division based on caste and creed, and vote-bank politics. Poonia stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had very generously and clearly affirmed the Central Government’s readiness for discussion and debate on every issue; yet, the Congress party’s avoidance of such discussion raises questions about its political intentions. He remarked that the people of the country have witnessed and understood this negative politics of the Congress, and have consequently rejected the party—both in terms of its ideology and its conduct.
