Dehradun. The monsoon’s havoc continues in Uttarakhand. Following Dehradun, reports of cloudbursts in two places in Chamoli district on Thursday resulted in significant loss of life and property. Garhwal MP Anil Baluni arrived at the scene upon receiving the news. More than a dozen people are reported missing in the Chamoli incident. Meanwhile, the disaster in Dehradun has claimed two dozen lives so far, with many
still missing. The administration has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centers on Thursday. Due to heavy rains, the Dehradun road has collapsed at several places, leaving over 2,500 tourists stranded in Mussoorie. The administration is working to repair the road. Meanwhile, a cloudburst late Wednesday night in Kuntari Lagafali Ward of the Nandanagar Nagar Panchayat in Chamoli district completely damaged six buildings. A dozen people are feared trapped under the debris.
The bodies of five more people missing in the Doon Valley disaster have been recovered. Three bodies were found in Dehradun and two in the Yamuna River in Mirzapur, Saharanpur. This brings the death toll to 22. Twenty-three people are still reported missing, including six laborers from Saharanpur in Phulet village. However, the State Disaster Management Authority officially reported 16 deaths and 17 missing. The SDRF launched a search operation in several villages on Wednesday.
Dehradun-Mussoorie Road Damaged in Several Places
Officials in Dehradun reported that the Dehradun-Mussoorie road has been damaged in several places due to flooding caused by a cloudburst. Efforts are underway to restore the road, and tourists have been asked to remain where they are until then. An alternative Bailey bridge for light vehicles is being constructed in KolhuKhet, which is expected to be operational soon.
Six Houses Collapse in Chamoli, Dozens Missing
Many people are feared trapped under debris after a cloudburst in Chamoli district on Wednesday night, while two people have been rescued. Six buildings in Kuntari Lagaphali Ward of the Nandanagar Municipal Council were completely damaged by the debris. Many houses were completely destroyed in the accident. Relief and rescue operations are underway. Heavy rains also damaged houses in Dhurma village. The Chamoli District Magistrate stated that heavy damage was caused by a cloudburst in the Nandanagar Ghat area of Chamoli district on Wednesday night. Six houses in Kuntari Lagaphali ward of Nandanagar have been destroyed in the debris. 10 people are reported missing due to cloudburst in Kuntari Langaphali village of Chamoli district, including Kunwar Singh (42), Kanta Devi wife of Kunwar Singh (38), Vikas son of Kunwar Singh (10), Vishal son of Kunwar Singh (10), Narendra Singh (40), Jagdamba Prasad (70), Bhaga Devi wife of Jagdamba Prasad (65), Deveshwari Devi (65) and Guman Singh (75) and Mamta Devi (38) of Durga village.
