Cultural Programmes Held at Jawahar Bhavan

On the occasion of former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, a commemorative event highlighting his vision of inclusive national development was organized at Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi.
The programme was jointly hosted with a reception committee comprising faculty members from Jamia Millia Islamia, the University of Delhi, IGNOU, and Jamia Hamdard University. Themed “Voices from the Grassroots,” the event featured a seminar and a national case study competition that attracted students from across the country.
The event was inaugurated by former Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot and senior Congress leader and former Member of Parliament Ms. Minakshi Natarajan. They were welcomed by Prof. Satish Rai of Kashi Vidyapith.
Out of more than 100 entries received for the case study competition, 20 finalists presented their findings before an engaged audience and answered questions. The session was moderated by Dr. Vandana, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, Delhi University.
The seminar paid tribute to Shri Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy while also celebrating the significant role of women leaders in local governance. It provided a platform for students, researchers, and experts to share insights, deliberate on policies, and honour outstanding contributions in the field.
Post-lunch, a panel discussion titled “Women in Local Governance: From Policy to Power” was held with the participation of Dr. Amna Mirza, Prof. Sadhna Sharma, and senior journalists Ms. Nidhi Kulpati and Ms. Shweta Kothari. The discussion was followed by the release of Dr. Amna Mirza’s book, “Gender in Indian History: Ancient to Early Medieval Period.”
The event also showcased India’s cultural richness through student performances including folk dances such as Bihu from Assam and Kalbelia from Rajasthan, along with classical music and dance.
The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, graced by Member of Parliament Ms. Praniti Shinde and Shri Vijay Mahajan, marking a fitting end to the celebration of Rajiv Gandhi’s enduring legacy of progress and inclusivity.
