Senior BJP leader Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra passes away

New Delhi. Senior BJP leader and former Delhi BJP president Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra passed away on Tuesday at the age of 94. He breathed his last at around 6 a.m. this morning. He had been unwell for the past few days and was undergoing treatment at Delhi AIIMS. News of his passing was met with grief. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and other leaders expressed their condolences.
Malhotra, along with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, made the journey from the RSS to the Jan Sangh and the BJP. Born in Lahore on December 3, 1931, he was the fourth of seven siblings. Malhotra served as president of the Jan Sangh Delhi state from 1972 to 1975 and twice as president of the Delhi BJP, from 1977-1980 and 1980-1984.
Malhotra has had a long political career. He has worked for many years with veteran leaders like Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana.
Defeated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by a landslide from the South Delhi constituency. Malhotra has been a five-time MP and two-time MLA from Delhi. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Malhotra was the only BJP candidate from Delhi to retain his seat. His career was that of a leader with an unblemished and clean image.
