Telangana Rajya Sabha Elections = Singhvi set to return, Shyam Mohan a strong contender
The Sunday Mail
New Delhi. Congress’s Abhishek Manu Singhvi is set to return to the Rajya Sabha elections for two seats in Telangana, while Shyam Mohan has emerged as a strong contender for the second seat. The elections are scheduled for March 16th.
According to sources, senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, currently representing Telangana, is likely to retain his seat with the support of the Congress high command. His legal expertise and impressive presence in Parliament are considered a significant strength for the party at the national level. However, there is considerable interest in the state unit for the second seat. According to party sources, senior Congress leader Shyam Mohan Ananthula, younger brother of Mr. Madan Mohan Ananthula (a minister in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet under various Chief Ministers in the 1970s), has emerged as a strong contender. He is the son of K.R. He is expected to replace Suresh Reddy, who was elected on a Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ticket and whose term ends in April. Anantula, who has been associated with the Congress for over six decades, is being discussed within the party as a symbol of organizational loyalty and institutional memory. He participated in the All India Youth Congress convention addressed by Indira Gandhi in 1960-61 and also played a role in the 1969 Telangana movement. Over the years, he chaired the Intellectual Cell of the APCC and TPCC and held important positions in various coordination and disciplinary committees. Beyond politics, Anantula also has extensive professional and international experience. He served on the Planning Commission’s working group on food security and public distribution, was a member of the Central Board of Film Certification, and led global delegations to China and Latin America. As a management expert and author, he has also been associated with several academic and civic institutions. Party sources say the upcoming nominations will reflect a balance of political strategy, social representation, and respect for his long-term commitment to the Congress.
