India’s communications sector will undergo a major transformation – Scindia
PM Modi to launch two schemes today
The Sunday Mail
New Delhi. Union Communications and Development of North-Eastern Region Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two important initiatives in the communications sector on September 27th. The first is the rollout of approximately 98,000 mobile 4G towers across the country, and the second is a fully indigenous 4G network, which will be completely software-based and cloud-based. It is ready for 5G in the future. Union Minister Scindia said, “No part of India will be left untouched by this network.” He added that these 4G towers are already serving 22 million customers across the country.
This indigenous 4G network was implemented by BSNL. The radio access network (RAN) was developed by Tejas Networks, the core network was built by C-DOT, and TCS integrated it. Union Minister Scindia stated that this is a historic step towards a self-reliant India, as India has now joined the ranks of the world’s top telecom equipment manufacturers.
Elaborating on the importance of this initiative for the common citizen, he said that students in Bihar will now have easy access to world-class online education. Farmers in Punjab will be able to receive real-time market price information. Soldiers deployed in Kashmir will remain connected with their families. Entrepreneurs in the Northeast will gain access to international experience and funding. This 4G infrastructure aims to empower Indians from every geographical location and background.
Furthermore, India’s 100% 4G saturation network has been implemented under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), connecting nearly 29,000 villages with 4G networks. This is a significant achievement ahead of BSNL’s 25th anniversary.
Secretary, Telecom, Dr. Neeraj Mittal, detailed India’s telecom development journey, explaining how indigenous 4G technology, which seemed impossible a few years ago, has now become a reality. He also stated that with the support of youth, industry, and constant vigilance, India has become self-reliant in telecommunications and is now in a position to export this technology globally. This is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India and global leadership.
Today, India is providing high-quality telecom services to 1.2 billion people and establishing itself as a world-class hub for telecom equipment manufacturing. This achievement embodies digital inclusion, global leadership, and the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” On this historic occasion, the Prime Minister will dedicate this achievement to the nation, which symbolizes not just a technological milestone but the realization of a vision.
