New Delhi: The air quality in the national capital, Delhi, has reached a very severe level. Although it had improved a few days ago, experts predict that the situation may worsen further by the end of this week. On Saturday morning, the AQI reached 401. To prevent the situation from deteriorating further, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented GRAP Stage III across the entire NCR. Pollution control agencies have also been instructed to take strict measures.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average AQI on Friday evening reached 349, which is considered in the very poor category. According to the CPCB, it could reach the severe category on Sunday.

According to a report, 27 out of 39 monitoring stations in the capital recorded very poor air quality on Friday. Six of these were considered to be in the severe category. The worst reading of 432 was recorded in Jahangirpuri. Transportation is considered to be the biggest contributor to the increase in pollution, accounting for 16.5 percent. This is followed by pollution from industries in and around the city, which accounts for 8.6 percent. Construction work contributed 4.1 percent of the pollution, while waste burning contributed 1.4 percent.
